The Southern Orthopaedic was founded by a small group of dedicated orthopaedists with a desire to establish a regional orthopaedic association for physicians living in the southern states of the United States. The Southern Orthopaedic Association was founded in 1983 to serve its members and fulfill its mission of developing and fostering the art and science of medicine in the specialty of orthopaedic surgery. Foremost in this effort is the flagship Annual Meeting and the Journal of Surgical Orthopaedic Advances.
